Well it sure has been crazy week we had two more baptisms Saturday and they both went through great and this week has been full week of activities leading up to ward conference we had yesterday.
ok for talent show ........our skit. well....I got bottle and wrote gospel cola on it (evangelio cola )and then me and Funtealba found a bum on the street the old ward mission leader of last year and he was acting.....had no purpose in life his girlfriend dumped him. He was smoking and drinking and ready to give up. Me and my comp come in speed walking with backpacks passing out stuff and giving hand shakes to everyone ......It was good and find the dude and give him the cola then he leaves. He had a blanket up his shirt looked chubby. 5 seconds later enters Elder Watters skinnier and happier and doing pushups and jumping jacks and we said and that’s what the change of gospel does in life! There was story teller on mike and we just acted but it was good laugh. It was great people were laughing so hard and we were speed walking shaking hands.......
Yes we have a ward mission leader and we had 16 lesson with members this week and things are just rolling I’ve never worked so hard in my whole life then to this point. We also had steal the flag game in Friday and it was fun I got tackled by about 37 little Peruvian kids in ward and neighborhood who came and played. We put flags on top of b-ball hoop and I was only one that could jump up there and get it hehe....the ward conference and baptisms went real well too and lots of people came!
Well this week we found 4 referrals and things are going to start getting crazy

We are going to take out citas/ appointments with people who want to come work with us. The other day we went with 6 hehe to one house. we really have lots of confidence in the ward and lots of help and are enjoying the fruits

Letter from Jon 3-23-09
Hey family!!!!!!!!!!! 3-23-09
Woof got lots to report on today. I’m so glad everyone had a wonderful time at the happiest place on earth. That is awesome. I love pirates rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..hehe!! Happy b-day dad!! I love you and congratulations Jordan on Maryland Baltimore. que bueno que podremos hablar español junto primo! Hehe that is way exciting! Happy anniversary ang and tj how exciting!I’m so happy, I have such a great fam and friends muah!Well this week we just had one not three baptisms, but it was still a great baptism the sister of Elsa. It was so awesome and I was blessed to baptism her. I have felt the sprit so strong this whole week and can feel the change in my heart for my whole situation and the great blessing I have to help these people and just no to worry about myself. I have seen miracles and this lady is so shy but was so happy last night and our ward is just on fire. We finally got a ward mission leader called and he is my best bud. He is the brother of one the 3 of our converts. We are starting today on the work! I’m so excited!
It’s been a great week for me. We had conference and it was a answer to my prayers. We talked on three things. #1 that perfect obedience would bring blessings from the Lord even perfect health. Lately I’ve really just tried to loose myself and I’ve never felt better and I really am happy! #2we also talked about not seeking positions of leadership and just giving all the glory to the Lord and I thought that was so good. I really like one thing in particular about being a true disciple of the Lord. Disciple comes from disaple and this week I have really tried to put off natural man and just go at it! Its amazing what the mission does to a Young man. #3 Putting the Lord first always and putting goals on oneself to always be better. It’s so awesome and just hearing all my friends and what everyone’s doing in there life just makes me so proud to be a member of this church!I love being a missionary but sometimes it’s like football---- it’s hard but after I know I’m just going to miss it , This week we got lots going on. We have a talent show I’ll have to see what I can pull out of my sleeve. Thanks so much for all the love and support everyone.

Letter from Jon 3-9-09

Dear fam!!!!!!!How is everyone I’m so glad to hear that things are going great and that life continues to click on. We got some fun dates coming up anniversary’s and b-days. I wish all you love birds ani, and ang happy days!’ That’s way fun Clint that you are going to Disneyland. I rember my first trip to Disneyland. I was so excited! I think the highlight was riding with dad on the pirates and him telling me the stories. I’ve always loved pirates! I also enjoyed the goofy scream from dad on splash mountain. Clint give Jeter a paper plate to write all rides down hehe remember…Thanks so much mom and dad for love and support and all packages. I really appreciate it. I love you so much, it sounds like D.O. is doing great! It’s always a joy hearing about my buds tearing it up. It inspires me hehe! We didn’t change times down here but it is getting darker earlier.I’m so excited about 26 Oct baby, bood! Tell me how it goes , and tell me where Jordan is headed to okWell i just want to start out by saying I’m so sorry for having a bad attitude and kind of complaining last week as you know some weeks are better then others and this last little while has been real tough on me and my mind, but I’m tough. I sure love all the support and love for me thanks so much!!! Sorry for complaining!I am so so blessed yesterday we watched the video of Heber C. Kimball in church how he left his wife and kids in bed being sick himself to go on mission. He was on his mission for many years . I liked the part in the movie that showed the Elders get up from their sick bed in the back of the wagon. Elder Kimball and the others said, “ stop we cant leave like this.” Then they stood up and gave 3 cheers. I loved the Spanish translation Heber C. said quote, “ its so hard but we got to do it…as he stood up with other men and shouted three times huara!!!!!!!!! For Israel!!!!!!!!!! I was bawling and was over come by the spirit. I know my trails are nothing and I really am grateful for my test and know it will make me so much better. I’ve always gotten everything I’ve wanted and I still do.. hehe I really am seeing now…. I trust the Lord and I know he loves me! My favorite prophet captain Moroni was so so tough because he was a man that was incredibly grateful to the Lord for his privileges. I am to so grateful. I love all you so much. I will go on in this great cause!This week we put fecha on four people and so that is exciting. I hope we can get some fruit from our labors. One baptism is the hermana de Elsa and we are excited to go down the line until maybe we can get the whole family baptized. I have a testimony of family with missionaries in the field because I know I have 4 or 5 baptisms of families who have brothers on missions and if any of them ever look me up one day and say thanks for teaching their family, I’m going to say it was all of your examples. I hope you can all grow in gospel better with me here.I have come to learn that every baptism is a miracle!I love you all keep living the dream and laugh and know I am doing good!Love your son down in lama land Elder Rogers

Letter from Jon 2-23-09
Hey family this is Elder Rogers down in Peru!This week was awesome we had two marriages and had a baptism yesterday. It was my companions first. We are working hard and temperatures have really gotten sweaty hot and miserable. We are busy and we have 14 people with fecha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m so excited and we are trying to do all we can to get them all in. Everyone has their little problems but we got some good buds that can get baptized. We married a family with two kids. I’m so excited and they have fechas for 21 of March! ,Maria and David. I was in at a marriage again yesterday. Marriages are so so stressful but so awesome. I can really feel like we making a difference down here. My companion is getting lots of cool experiences; his first baptism yesterday of a lady named Jaklikn and it went really well. I’m happy just to be able to go after it down here. We have two more baptisms this next week. It’s hard to explain the stories of all of them but there all great people.
I love little kids! Many of you now know Bruno, with a name of dog. He is a nut, he is like Kason on drugs that speaks Spanish. He is my bud for life. Everyday he climbs through my bedroom door window to wake me up. Everyday he makes a candy picture to tell me how hot my girlfriend is. He really is something else but my buddy. He talks so so so fast! I should be pretty sharp. Everyday I have language study with Bruno from 11 to 11:15 then that’s about as much as I can handle and I’ve got to do something else.
This week we were contacting and I contacted a dude with blue and white jersey on and I read it and it said …..DIXIE! What!…. I said,” hey were did you get that shirt?” He said his family sent it to him. I said, “ that’s my high school no way what a small world!!!” I wanted to buy it from him and I reached for my wallet but decided not to. I didn’t want him to walk away with no shirt just so some rich American could have a Dixie shirt. I was so shocked. Cool uh! Dixie High in Peru!
Sorry about the 100 sole charge last week we went to Chiles and I splurged. It was so amazing and one of highlights of this last year of my life! I got a cookie, a brownie and ice cream and a chicken fried steak! It was great! Thanks dad for making the happiest lunch of my life possible! I dedicate this song to dots…..remember Uncle Mike on the houseboat. I miss that guy!I love you all

Letter from Jon 2-16-09

Hey family and everyone ¡!!!!!!!!!!!!Well I hope everyone had a fun happy valentines day and, hope everyone is healthy and happy and enjoying life its so fun to hear the happenings in everyone’s life and its such a comfort.Thanks mom and dad and everyone else for the emails. Thanks so much Carma for fun package… mmm brownies and good stuff. I love you guys! Grandma thanks for the “ I will survive card” hehe!!!!!Well its been a good week and my companion and I are rolling. We really got lots going on and its crazy how time goes when you trying to help people accomplish there dates for the most important decisions of their life’s like baptism marriage and being active in the church!This week we had a baptism a lady named Elsa Calron. She is 26 and her mom and brother are members. She was really prepared and read almost all the Book of Mormon. It was a really good baptism. I was blessed with opportunity to baptize her. We have been working with her sense Blackie was here. Can you believe I have a spent a month with my greenie? !!!!!!! Anyway she finally got baptized and it was really good. Her mom got really emotional and said she never thought she’d be alive when her daughter finally got baptized. The mom never gave up hope. I’m so so happy to be a part of the miracle and change that happens in these people’s life as they make the decision to be baptized. It was really awesome. I’m making so many friends and really have such love for these people. Being here so long has really given me a chance to gain confidence in the ward. Yesterday bishop put me on the spot and said we will now have a 5 minute talk by our missionary Elder Rogers what!!!!!!!!!! With this little warning I got up and shared four scriptures.
D&C 20: 70
70 Every member of the church of Christ having achildren is to bring them unto the elders before the church, who are to lay their bhands upon them in the name of Jesus Christ, and bless them in his name.
What our responsibility is I challenged them to bring their kids and family to church.
What we should do and how.
D & C 24:12
12 And at all times, and in all places, he shall open his mouth and adeclare my gospel as with the voice of a btrump, both day and night. And I will give unto him strength such as is not known among men.
Open the mouth, and what will happen if we don’t
D & C 60: 2,3
2 But with some I am not well pleased, for they will not open their amouths, but they hide the btalent which I have given unto them, because of the cfear of man. Wo unto such, for mine danger is ekindled against them.
3 And it shall come to pass, if they are not more faithful unto me, it shall be ataken away, even that which they have.
It was on the spot but I felt good about it and I made them laugh too! I did not come down on them too hard. It was good but I was sweating cause I still get nervous talking to crowds Carolina called me on the phone she went back to Jauja and she is doing good she said in the church! She couldn’t come visit but that’s okHehe o man I got so many crazy stories. I just have to tell you guys when I get back I have seen some really hard and sad, bad things but also many miracles…. It’s non-stop action down here. This month is Water fest and yesterday we were in the park and a group of 50 boys came up to us with a bucket and stuff. I thought we were done for and then in the front I saw a kid that I know that used to go to the same gym that we did. He said hi and shook my hand and I was like hey pal you know it would be unholy to soak us and he laughed and said yea your right and they all left. It was a modern day miracle. I love making friends. The kid that saved me is a die-hard evangelical and hates our church but he is our friend and that friendship helped us. I love the work and love all of you.
