Dear family and friends,Well it was so so good to talk to you all on yesterday! It was to fun hearing from everyone and I really enjoyed listening to everyone’s voice-- thanks so so much!Mom happy mothers day and dad I love you and everyone else.Clint sorry I missed you man but I’ll see you at airport when the engines are roaring.I’m excited to work my butt off until that day and I cant believe its coming faster then I can sometimes handle it. It still feels like I’ve got so much to do and learn. That’s so crazy all of the elders that are coming home. I’m glad jeddy boy is good and I cant wait to talk to him. Tell him to email me I want to hear his thoughts.
Well I sure do love all you and it was to fun talking to everyone, Kason hehe and his jokes and everything!Well last night we had a sweet training for the Ward mission leaders and it was so awesome. We gave everyone Preach my Gospel Books and committed them to help us. I wish dad and Pres. Wilkinson were there to whip everyone into shape. The church struggles in some areas but the plan is the bomb. If we can do it we are going to see some good success. I’m excited cause my ward mission leader is a RM and has good potential. We are going to visit my people with the baptism date it should be good.
I love working and in my zone right now its almost like competition. I see nothing wrong with that. I just want everyone excited about the work and my companion and I had 64 lessons this week! Hehe
I love talking with everyone. I’ll try anything that moves the people. The people look at us weird cause they know we coming to teach them and pass out photos and pamphlets… I say would you like to know that Joseph Smith was a Prophet? hehe I’m excited and I’m going to pray and just try to be my best. There is nothing cooler than planning, and praying and The Lord just makes everything come out perfect.
Please keep praying. I just want to baptize everyone and I know that the Lord is preparing for us. I’m going to kick it up its go time!
Well my companion and I are also drinking protein and doing perfect pushups. He doesn’t like it but he likes the shakes. It’s fun and were snuggly warm when we get in our beds.Well I feel like I got most of what I wanted to say out on the phone so I’ll write to you next week with more adventures. I’m doing great and I love you so so much!Love your son in lama land
This week we also found two couples that can get married and then get baptized. I’m going to be working hard with them. I want a family to baptize so bad.
I sure loved what mom said about a legacy. It is fun to think these people we have worked with will look back to the missionary that helped them join the church. I want to come back and show you these great families.
PS. One last request, I want a box of mac and cheese.
Elder Rogers
PSS Today were playing against elder wilding and blackie and larson in the Mantaro zone. I was chest bumping all my Latino brothers and told um Elder Rogers doesn’t loose, so I know you will not make me a liar right? ……….do what you got to do boys…. Let’s win

Letter from Jon 5-4-09

5/4/09
Well another week has just flown by and I’m doing good. I think it might be just a change in the food; the difference in food from Vitarte to Huancayo. I feel good and I just pound it everyday. I am working so good with my compie. I love my comp and he is such a stud. I feel our teaching is better then ever.
He shared a story about bearing our crosses and many people asked God if they could cut off a little off the bottom of their cross to make it lighter and He said yea go ahead but at end of journey there is a river and God says ok use those crosses you’ve been carrying as a bridge but the people that had cut of their crosses couldn’t cross the river. I thought that was kind of good for all of us. I’m trying to teach him to do his lessons and he’s doing great! He’s so humble and were buds.We have worked hard as a district this week and its crazy! In the meeting we have with ZL’s we talk about everything and everyone its kind of new to me, but I like it. I love pumping up my district. Were really working hard. I planned an activity with my ward mission leader and we had all the youth go on splits with the elders of the Zone Huancayo for the whole day. They even did studies. It turned out really well and two kids in my ward are now working on their papers and another 13-year-old kid showed up and went with ZL’s. He really liked it. He is not a member but came to my ward cause he has friends. Then he came to this activity and the missionary from his ward told me today he’s now getting baptized and he wants me to baptize him! What ! I was honored !! This Saturday, I’m traveling to baptize 13 year old Milton. Its been great week and we are doing so much good. This work is awesome and today my companion and I went door knocking and found two college students that came to church and committed to baptism last night. They are so prepared. When we knocked on the door I should of said were here…..to baptize you! They are from the jungle and come from many family problems but now they have a date for the 24th; Alan 21 and his sister Enes 22.How exciting it is to be the tool in the Lord’s hand. My comp is so excited and I am too! He’s like Calhoun. He sometimes gets way excited and is like challenging them in the first 5 min of the lesson and I have to grab him and say hey hey! Lets say a prayer and take it easy pal…heheThe other day something funny happened. We were walking through the field and two cows were bashing heads and fighting and I told him that is so cool to be in Huancayo. How many elders are walking and seeing what we see? Then the cows stopped and looked at us and one started doing the one hoof swipe.. swipe and I was like ….are you kidding me? …o Grap! And I looked at my companion and said run! It was way scary and the cows/bulls totally chased us. My heart was going nuts! We were nervous for second but we got through the field. It was great just like the rodeo. Don’t worry mom, I was playing with um…..yeeee haaaaWell this new flu is pretty big news all over the world. I know its pretty scary I got a letter form The President saying we must take all precautions. As a leader I am to inform the district and zone of this with the statistics about how many were infected etc. and I might be in Peru and what not but I know its just another of many signs of these last days and times. It’s scary but the Lord will protect us and not one Elder has it. .I’m trying my hardest and never going to give in to the hard times that I go through.
My new favorite hymn is I How firm a foundation. I love it…in times of sickness and health at land or on sea. He will stand by us and help us to stand. I sometimes wonder why? but I can’t because when I see these people I teach and the change in them… I can’t complain. I love them and I will do anything for them and my Father and he know that.
I love this work and I will never no never no never no never no never forsake.
I cry every time I hear that song and I think of you all I love you! Love your son in Peru.
PS pre-call tomorrow in morning get ready! I got package with pictures coming next week . Happy Mother’s Day! Elder Rogers

Dang……We thought he was doing so well.

Dad, I’m sick again just please pray for me this week. I continually get sick in my intestines. I took a blood test to day to see if I got parasites. I’m trying to stay positive but it’s hard. I keep loosing weight and all I eat just comes through me. I’m ok just pray. I’ll tell you about the medicine they put me on next Monday. I love you!
Dear fam!
Well how is everyone it sounds like everyone is doing great and I’m so glad. That’s so crazy seeing jJK and AJ they are just huge especially J. It was fun to see Kason, Bailey and Aubrey Sue too--- thanks ty…
Well I’m here in Huancayo and things are going good we had a baptism!!!!!!!!!!! Last week we found a lady named Rosa who listened before to the elders and we helped her make the decision so she is now a member and we are now working with her whole family. Being a district leader is kind of stressful but I like it and am learning tons.. I have to call all the time and check numbers and see how everyone is doing and stuff and help people with their goals and yes I travel to give interviews but just here in Huancayo I don’t go to Jauja but I did drive right through there last week when I came in.. but my companion and I are good buds and he is just chill. We get alone fine it feels like sometimes he is a little brother. I can feel myself with more patience and love then I’ve ever had.
Were trying to get to know more people in the ward and its crazy how lost we are sometimes, but its getting better. I’m excited to work with the family of Rosa and that should be our main purpose here is to help this family. I feel like every area I have been in there is a family that needs us and its so cool. It really hits you how sacred the calling of elder is..You just got to find them. We are teaching Rosa’s 92-year-old dad named Isac and her mom Sonia, and 3 of her sisters; Lice Edela and Rosanna. All of then are over 40 yrs and most are single, but it’s a great family!I
’m learning so much and thanks so much for book on lectures of faith dad its awesome.I got put in hot seat last week by ex assistant who like’s doctrine. He is my bud but sometimes I want to sit down with him and battle in English. He called my companion and I up to be example to answer question the other Elder failed to answer …. About were does it say in Book of Mormon not D&C that we need to be married and it’s a essential commandment…..I’m not gunna lie it doesn’t talk much about marriage except nefi and his wife so I hit them with 1 nefi 7 1,2,3

1 And now I would that ye might know, that after my father, Lehi, had made an end of prophesying concerning his seed, it came to pass that the Lord spake unto him again, saying that it was not meet for him, Lehi, that he should take his family into the wilderness alone; but that his sons should take daughters to wife, that they might raise up seed unto the Lord in the land of promise.
2 And it came to pass that the Lord commanded him that I, Nephi, and my brethren, should again return unto the land of Jerusalem, and bring down Ishmael and his family into the wilderness.
3 And it came to pass that I, Nephi, did again, with my brethren, go forth into the wilderness to go up to Jerusalem.

and I nefi 16 7,8…….

7 And it came to pass that I, Nephi, took one of the daughters of Ishmael to wife; and also, my brethren took of the daughters of Ishmael to wife; and also Zoram took the eldest daughter of Ishmael to wife.
8 And thus my father had fulfilled all the commandments of the Lord which had been given unto him. And also, I, Nephi, had been blessed of the Lord exceedingly.
Yeah can’t touch this hehe!!!!!!!!! No I was lucky cause I just read it.But I love to learn and am learning lots from them about angels, priesthood, and Urim and Thummim little white rocks_..... any ideas dad…. We love to look for cool things just like Joseph Smith taught us in D&C
Huancayo is so pretty but its so hot during the day then it just get cold during the night burr you have to carry a coat then but it on in shade and after 6, but get sunburned from 11 to 4 its so weird ----la sierra its called.
I taught my first class last week and thought it went well I taught on studies and gave good example on journal of studies.
I love you all and thanks so much for all love and support, I’m so grateful for my family and this opportunity in my life and my family.
Please pray for my health and safety, and I am always for yours
Love your son Elder Rogers

Hey family woof ! Well I’m here in Huancayo and its just nuts. I tell you I’m DL and its nuts… I got people calling me all the time and I did my first interview the first day that I was DL here in Huancayo for the ZL’s.I love you all and loved reading your emails today…Um well its pretty cold here but I’m doing great .. I m reopening this area with my greenie and we know nothing and its an adventure, I got the two DL’s and other group of Latinos in my district and I have to teach my first class tomorrow and I am way nervous but I can feel the lord helping me know what to do!Its pretty intimidating training and opening in new area and having ex -assistants and ZL’s in my area but I’m just going ahead little by little and I feel better every day. I am not used to asking so many questions but I’m ready for challenge.
I had to call pres on a baptism interview on a problem an investigator had and I was like a….President.. hi its me elder rog in Huancayo. I tried to explain the problem to him and he was like boy you get the job done up there son … I was like yikes! Our Mission President is the man but way intimidating. Our conversation went well, just my luck I had to call the President on the first interview! I saw Elder Blackham up here but not Elder Wilding.
My comp is Elder Linas from Arequipa, Peru. I have been an Elder longer then he has a member!!!!!!!!!! Hehe yep he got baptized last year and he is a stud after Funtelba. I am so ready for round two. I love helping and teaching the new greenies . First thing we did when we got here is look at the carpeta area book and there was nothing in it. I looked at Elder Linas and said we are going to have fun. There is supposed to be old contacts and old visits in there but there was not so I said, lets get to work.
We bought a map and called the bishop and tried to go find were our penz lived so we could eat lunch. It has been wild. Apparently there was some problems with other elders and so yea here I am…..
I gave a 20 min talk yesterday in church my comp had planned for ten and after 5 min or so he sat down and the bishop said Elder Rogers’ you like to tell stories and I said yea bishop hehe kind of….He said make one up! I am best buds with my bishop. He reminds me Lee Scott hehe what a stud, O what an adventure! It is cold here cold but so fresh and pretty here
So we found two contacts already and they got a fecha. It was pretty cool I love you all and will give you better report next week.
Elder Rogers
This is my song. I love it for my situation………Fear not I’ m with thee O be not afraid for I m thy god and will still give thee aid. Ill strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand. Up help by his righteous omnipotent hand!
( Sorry, my spelling sucks…)

Letter from Jon 4-13-09

Dear Family 4-13-09
Well thanks so much pres for the great letter it just pumps me up to be your friend and thanks so much for the wonderful support and love and all that you do for meThanks so much mom and dad and everyone else for loving me and supporting me in this crazy adventure. I sure did enjoy the emails today! … hehe Clint your emails are so classic I want you to know I read everything from everyone. Thanks grandmas and bood and Carma too for the package, I love you all!!!Well sounds like things are going great in St. George!
Tell Kason I’m coming soon enough and that is so unfair that Lish is going to Costa Rica!Well it’s the end of the change and yes we have changes today and I’m kind of nervous because anything can happen! But I reflect back on my time here and I have grown and learned so much here in Vitarte. Its been a building block in my life and mission, I am such good buds with everyone in the Ward and we are rolling and working so good. It’s just crazy like my own neighborhood in the ghetto of Lima. I do love it and can feel the spirit as I try to brighten these people’s life’s and help them be firm in the church. One of the hardest parts of being a missionary is making so many good friends and then having to move on and never knowing if you will talk or see each other again. Elsa and Estella’s mom came up to me all emotional yesterday and grabbed both my hands and said now listen to me….! Like almost mad like grandma then said… you tell your mother, thanks for raising you and bringing you into this world. I am so happy to see my daughters get baptized in this church. Iit really hit home to me and I suddenly felt the spirit so strong and was like wooo when she said you were supposed to come here; to Vitarte at this time with my girls! I got teary eyed right there in busy hallway of church and it was so awesome.
I know everything I’m doing was supposed to be. It is so crazy to meet people or have things happen and you realize its all the Lord. I have seen miracles down here ….Elsa got called to be head of Liahona here in Ward and she is just pumped. It is so fun to see the converts grow, wow! I am so blessed and I have such great friends.

I feel like these people here were always supposed to be members the way they eat up gospel. They just forgot about for a while because they were born here in Peru and not in my great family. I am here and I couldn’t be happier. I’ve had 11 baptisms since Jauja. It is going to be tough to leave Vitarte. Were doing lots of good things we just started a class Tuesday night for all those people who want to go with us and teach. We train them then practice with our new ward mission leader. We are forming a Missionary army in the Ward to go out with us! The best part is that lots of them are the new members that we just baptized.I love helping these people. The other day one lady that was baptized called at 8 in the morning almost crying saying Elder Rogers you always ask me if I need help and today my money is all gone I was robbed. She said that she had nothing left. My Little kids are here what do I do? I said we will be there this morning and left. We got help for her with the bishop the next day in church. We got food coupons and on Saturday my companion and I gathered food for her and took it to her house. I know she was so grateful and I hope it strengths her testimony. No she knows what I mean when I say this church is hope and light in her life. She came to church all slicked up with smile on her face yesterday!I love you all and thanks so much for being there for me. I’m having fun too and love to joke hehe!!! I’m teaching the primary kids the song “How firm a foundation in English.
It is so fun. There is like 80 of them cause 15 to 20of them come from the investigator’s kids. They put the kids in Primary so our investigators can listen in class. When I teach them how it goes they are running around screaming but when they sing it’s so cute! They always greet me and scream Elder Royers Royers is there gunna be a treat? I have got to get a film of it but if I’m out of here so you will have to imagine……Love your Son, Elder Rogers.
Well cambios are ........................I’m going to Huancayo hehe yeah! I’m going to train again o man heaven help me! I’m way nervous and excited!! I love Huancayo!"Well there it is .......see you next week in the mountains two hours away from Juaja!!!!!!!!!!!!!!muah!

P.S. o flip and I’m District Leader!!!! With newbie in new area o flip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!hehe here we go....

April 6, 2009

Thanks so much dad for your letter Dear family,Wow what a wonderful week. I am so happy everyone is doing so great. I am glad that you loved conference. I was able to listen to every talk and every session and I loved every second of it. I have never felt the spirit so strong for so long and I know the lord let me understand everything and I did. I took notes in English and listened in Spanish--- it was so so good.
Congratulations Ani and Juj, go and get them!
Mitch and Linda, congrats on the new babe and Kason I love your stories! Dragon flies and snake makers…. keep the stories coming.
Wow, President Wilkinson!!!!! Isn’t that just crazy! I have such a crazy thing to tell you. I didnt know until today when you told me that he was a new General Authority because during the first part of the session I was still getting investigators in their seats and situated but the name of my good friend Pres. Wilkinson came into my head and I knew something happened, but I didn’t know what. I felt it was big. The feeling was so real and today I know why – Wow!Congrats Pres. I love you, and it would be my dream for you to marry me and my future wife in St. George Temple. I’d love to hear from you! I’m doing great! ( Everyone remember Jon has a new address)
O family, what can I say? I am so full of the spirit and this week has been the most significant week of my mission. I was able to finish the Book of Mormon and pray about it… and listen to the prophet of the Lord and his counselors. I had the spirit confirm to me many times in last two days and right now… that this church is so true! I am so grateful for parents. They are my best friends and they have raised me in the gospel. I am grateful for my leaders and my best friends and Kylee girl and my brother Clint and my sisters. I am grateful for my uncles and aunts and everyone that has helped me get to this point in my life. I love living by the spirit and will do anything to feel the way I do now. I am so excited for the future to start my family and be a good dad and husband. If there was one thing I got out of conference, it was like dad said, “ life is tough but there is always hope and comfort in our Lord Jesus Christ.” Holland’s talk was amazing and I too have felt some dark times in my mission and life but the Lord is always there for us and he has descended below all, and doubt and faith can not coexist. That is so good!Well anyways hehe….sorry I’m just going off!!! Hehe….. I’m still Jon Rog hehe… I just really can feel spirit !
This week I found out that David y Maria are going to get baptized they moved away to Chosique and I was bummed but I saw Maria on street other day and she said Elder Rogers thanks so much the other missionaries found us and we going to get baptized. I was so happy. I told them what ever happens keep going forward. What a wonderful family my only family on my mission and I won’t be there to see, but its ok.
I loved song in conference “How firm a Foundation” I have been teaching it to the primary kids in English and yesterday the song was part of conference! I was like woooI love the part when it says… I will not I can not! Forsake no never no never no never ever forsake! I love this work! I know what I’m doing is just changing my life but more then that it is the most important work in the world.
Just think of all those talks of hard times and deaths but with this gospel its all going to be alright!
We changed houses this week. The new house is a pretty cool house. We go up on the roof to plan and study.
Changes are next week and I don’t know what is going to happen but know if I go its going to be hard cuz this Ward is like my Ward. I’ve been here since Halloween ….hehe
I love you all
Love your son down in lama land
